"There is NO Thinking on the Dance Floor with DJ Ruminate."
Ruminate FKA Stoneypie is a DJ and selector built for the dancefloor. With over 15 years of crate digging behind her, she specializes in deep selection spanning genres—House, Techno, "160", DNB, Jungle, Footwork, Deep Dubstep, Ghettotech, Club, Global Bass, Electro and beyond—woven together with precision and intent. This is music that moves through you: raw yet refined, relentless yet deeply felt.
Rooted in vinyl heritage, Ruminate often performs fast paced multi-format sets that bridge the classic and the new, unearthing forgotten gems and placing them beside future classics. Every mix is a conversation with the dancefloor—a carefully excavated journey through rhythm, memory, and release. She doesn't just play tracks; she builds momentum, inviting you to lose yourself in the drop and find yourself in the groove. The music doesn't fade. It ruminates.

Q: Your connection to dance music runs deep. Where did it all begin?

It started in 2007. I was a teen immersed in Phoenix's punk shows and b-boy jams, hunting for records at thrift stores and gigs--then came a lucky break. In the late 2000s, as DJs went digital, veterans unloaded their vinyl—and I was there to catch it.
Suddenly I had access to decades of sound: Hip-Hop, House, Techno, DNB, Jungle, and the roots—Disco, Soul, Funk, Jazz. It was just me, two turntables, an old mixer, and an MPC. That was the beginning.
Q: You didn't start behind turntables. How did you land your first set?
Phoenix legend Djentrification threw me on 602'sdays with zero experience. I showed up terrified with a crate of danceable records.
Then I felt it- that feeling- flowing- while everyone is in sync dancing. I was hooked instantly. The community molded me after that: Djentrification, Dehga, Meaty Ogre of Potions Records- and many, more.
I swear the best Dj's in the world are from Phoenix, Arizona.

Q: When did you first step into the club world?

Early 2010s. Indie-sleaze pioneer Sean Watson brought me in for my first real residency at BFF.
It was an interesting moment—commercial EDM was blowing up everywhere.
Meanwhile I'm in the booth spinning Hip-Hop, House, Footwork and deep underground cuts. I was inspired by the NYC bass and ballroom scene at the time. Particularly Venus X of GHE20G0TH1K. What I was into was very different from the Polished EDM the typical weekend crowd was looking for.
Q: What sparked your move into DIY productions and throwing your own raves?

I realized: why wait for someone to give me a space? I could just build one. I started co-producing shows with the GUILD collective. Later I would throw events with various crews and Dj's, including Phoenix's current fave- DJ Sueno. We founded DumbHot—a short-lived but deeply loved party series.
No permits, just community, safe floors, and the music. That work helped feed an underground scene in Phoenix that's still going.

Q: What brought you to LA?
Post-pandemic, I got a call about a room available with LA collective Soulful X Nature and relocated. I secured a residency with SplitChecks, and since I've been able to play HARD Summer, System Error, Scenario and more.
I've Opened for Kode9 and Lady Gaga but my fave set was at the "Sonic Mutlitverse Ascenction" rave by Evar Records. I got to play with DJ Slugo, Baseck, UMRU, and Anna Morgan. It's Crazyyy.
Q: What's next for you?

I am so grateful for the universe and my guides for putting me into alignment on this path.
"
I would very much love to keep going and to continue to be of service in this space for others, as well as for myself. While I simply relish in the joy of creation.
